CAC Chapter Meeting

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

11:30 – 1:00 p.m.

UCC – Capital City Room

Present:

Lavinna Bain, Wanda Butler, Donna Chapman, Tracy King, Donna Lewis CPS/CAP, Cyndee Moody, Linda Myers, Wanda Perry CPS/CAP, Carolyn Rufus CPS, Cindi Thomas, Teresa Tidwell CAP, Jana Walker

Speaker:  Shira Kelley

Welcome:

Teresa Tidwell CAP welcomed visitors and members to our monthly meeting. Jana Walker is one of our newest members who joined CAC at the APW meeting in April.

Door Prize Drawing:

Wanda Perry CPS/CAP won the on-time door prize, a copy of The Adversity Advantage by Erik Weihenmayer (keynote speaker from APW Briefing).

Tip for Today:

Today’s tips dealt with Outlook. Many users are not aware of the “search” feature in Outlook’s calendar, where meetings can be searched for by topic, keyword, etc. We also discussed how to delete a single occurrence of a meeting.

New Business:

  • Donna Lewis CPS/CAP shared the treasurer’s report with the chapter.
  • Teresa updated members on the status of the 2009/2010 CAC Election. Wanda Butler has handled the election process this year and after nominations and ballots, there is a tie for the office of Vice President. There will be a Special Meeting on Wednesday, June 3, from 11:30-12:00, where the two candidates will address the chapter for two minutes concerning their nomination. There will be a paper ballot to break the tie. In the event of a second tie, our bylaws state “the names of the candidates will be placed in a container and the Nomination and Elections Committee Chairperson or designee will draw.” You must be present to vote.

Guest Speaker:

Donna Chapman introduced today’s guest speaker, Shira Kelley. Shira presented an overview of the notary public. She conducts notary training classes for the Secretary of State’s office and has extensive knowledge and background on the topic. She had documents on hand for anyone who might want to become a notary. There were numerous questions and answers. Tracy King had questions from the perspective of someone who has been a notary. Several members, who were not in attendance, indicated they are currently notaries. Other members indicated an interest in becoming a notary. If you were not able to attend and would like some materials on the subject, Teresa has several copies of the documents provided.
